Caught up to assess pox. 
All remaining scabs exfoliated relatively easily. He still has bumps on both medial ankles - those have been present, are symmetrical and have not changed, so I am not sure if they were ever actually pox lesions. 
Cleaned feet well. 
Plan is to start to condition. Keep in same habitat, make sure that everyone uses booties because there will still be infectious materials on the floor of the Mew. 
Ideally, all perches need to be changed out, or at minimum the wrapping on them. 
Start to exercise 10-12x SID.

BAR, flying perch to perch. LOs were soaked from today & yesterday's weather. Missing tail feathers & weight are impacting flight; couldn't make it to perch easily. Lots of fat keel, abdomen, & furcular hollow. Pox lesions look mostly dried, one started peeling but is still partially connected. None seen on face. Swabbed all with betadine. 
Weight not recorded but think it was around the same. Since we are not exercising and already on diet, consider a skip day?

Evaluated outside. Flew well a couple of times then went to ground. Very stressed. 
The left foot looks worse and has new lesions developing on digit 3. The tip of digit 3 is pretty thickened with several lesions. The right foot looks about the same - the lesions on the tip of digit 4 are inflamed and scabbing, which is the usual course for this disease. 
Applied betadine to all lesions and took pictures. 
Given the fact that the lesions are worsening, decided to discontinue any exercise for now to decrease stress. 
Check toes every 5 days and continue the Clindamycin but otherwise keep as hands off as possible. Hopefully the lesions can run their course and resolve over the next 2-3 weeks. Dr Gardner

Evaluated outside without handling. Flew back and forth several times. Flight seems normal and I do not really see any ataxia with this bird. He does seem to move the tail a lot at rest but I am not sure what the significance of this is.
Did go to ground and I was able to see the feet fairly well. Pox lesions look stable - still quiet, face looks clear. Continue w/ plan. Will resolve ataxia in record. DR Gardner

Bird was supposed to start live prey testing today, but we noticed lesions on feet. Each TMT has a small bump on the medial aspect. Raised lesions on LD2 & 3 and RD3 & 4. Discussed with ME - we'll ask Dr. G her thoughts tomorrow about starting antibiotics. Will feed later. NOLO. Changed water.

Flies readily and well. Tucking feet up better now, possibly because the mew is longer and there is more time to do so. Still a bit unsteady when landing with a wide-based stance, but the perches are also fairly unsteady. Doing really very well - I have a lot of optimism that this guy may be releasable.

Exercised ~14x. Flew perch to perch well, flight looks good. Tends to land softly then take a short moment to pull himself up to perch, but no prolonged squatting/struggle seen. After last lap seemed to have a little trouble putting R foot to perch, set it down lightly then righted it after a few seconds. Uses wings more than normal to walk along perch, steps appear very slightly ataxic or 'light', but no wobbliness or loss of coordination seen.

Have not seen this bird in a while so can't reference improvement.  Bird flies well but does not completely lift legs against body.  Landing on perch is perfect but after a little bit, he starts to lower to hocks a little.  They just seem weak.  The couple of times he landed on the ground, would sit back on hocks.  Bird is currently not exercising.  Exercise could encourage bird to use legs and strengthen them.

BAR. Still obviously ataxic/ wobbly, tends to crouch down on perch or fall backwards, but has great grip strength. On ground able to recover to standing relatively quickly and climbs up slanted ramp easily. Did not see attempt to fly. 
Decided to remove tail sheath to see if the weight was affecting him - also, to give him more opportunity to use tail for balance. 
Checked outside later - he does fall back onto his tail, but recovers quickly and fans it out normally, I think it will be fine to keep it off. 
Continue to check every 2-3 days. If improvement starts to plateau we may need to make a decision. -Dr. Gardner

BARP, hopped off perch and fell onto back to foot. Grip strength felt strong on the glove. I picked the bird up and placed him on the perch and he appeared to try to charge me. Stood at full height a few times, but mostly crouched and shimmied away from me slowly on the perch. NOLO! Sprayed enclosure down well and changed water. Only FF a few pieces to go down with meds. Might be able to d/c fluids if consistently starts eating. Placed some food in cage on perch and the rest on the brick. Climbed up the ramp relatively quickly when let go.

Definitely improved but still quite ataxic. Able to perch and stand up, but wobbly and does tend to sink back down. Holding wings up and out - hard to tell if this is for balance or defensive at this point. 
I think it would be interesting to see how he does in a larger habitat, but I also think it would be a good idea to repeat radiographs. If time allows will have that done today. Dr Gardner

RADS done later - I don't see any bony changes in the spine on these radiographs. 
Given improvement I recommend moving somewhere bigger. 
Evaluate neurological status regularly - will put for staff for evaluated outside Q 2 -3 days.

Bird is BAR, squatting on perch in cage but using tail sheath for support. When taken out of cage and put on ground is very difficult to assess, lies on back for the most part and grabs with feet, when placed on feet continually falls onto back. 
Removed tail sheath - does fan tail out and moves to side but still falls onto back. Tail sheath replaced. 
I looked at the radiographs, but the exposure they were saved at makes it hard for me to see the spine. On the H-view I am concerned by the fact that there appears to be some spinal curvature. 
Hock wound is scabbed and minor.
P: Moved outside. Consider repeating radiographs 9/13. Started back on Meloxicam. Dr Gardner
